Cariari Country Club @San Jose, Costa Rica

Located between Alajuela and San Jose, in the trendy San Antonio de Belen area, Cariari Country Club is the main piece of Cuidad Cariari. A mature golf course and a local favorite for the last 30 years, this course will test your shot making abilities.

Every hole is a test, specially the second hole where it is common to have a 180-200 yard approach shot to an elevated green with out of bounds on the right and multiple trees blocking your shot. You will need to play a slight draw to get it close to the hole -- hit it straight on you will be looking for another ball to hit. Once you are done with this test, the short third hole is no push over. Drive it over a creek onto a tilted landing area and then hit a blind approach shot to a green that you don't want to miss.

My favorite hole is the par 5 fourteenth hole -- an elevated tee shot has to carry 100+ yards (if not it will land several hundred feet below in a horse park), then a blind second shot that requires you hit a draw and land about 40 yards short of the green so you can play a precise lob wedge over a giant sand trap. After you play this hole, the fifteenth hole is the hardest hole in the course. It never ends!

Cariari Country Club is a private club with a limited amount of memberships. Tee Times Costa Rica offers exclusive access to this private course for a limited number of players a day. Contact Us to book a golf package or use the form below.

The feel of the course and most of Cariari's members are locals but there is a good foreign retired community that organizes weekly skins games on Tuesdays. This course gives you a Costa Rica feel with its awesome mountain views, beautiful flora, knowledgeable caddies; and, the friendly members and staff will make you feel at home.

Please note that there is a $25 caddie fee per cart to play this couse. This fee is paid directly to the caddie.

What tee time is best

For Cariari:
We suggest 7-8am year round.

The hottest time of day is 11am but not an issue any time of year. It is about 26 Celcius (78 F) all year

When is it best to visit?

Golf in Costa Rica is year round.

We suggest April to July for low season pricing with great golf weather. Peak season is January to March.
